Itās our job as parents to teach, culturize and help our kids to grow and know other worlds and cultures. In our latest post, we have talked about the best activities to do on the island with the little ones of the house. In this post we are going to get away from paid activities, theme parks or places for childish leisure, because it is in the nature of our territory that we can find the true essence of a family trip.

Tenerife is a magic island, filled with activities for leisure and is an environment for all ages, but its true beauty can be found in these hidden places that we have to look for to keep in our memories. Mountains filled with special symbolism, unforgettable sunsets or little towns with a different charm, do you dare to show your kids the less known side of Tenerife?
Sunset at the Teno lighthouse
This is far away places in the most occidental of the Island. Even Though it belongs to the township of Buenavista del Norte, it is actually pretty far from the city, plus itās only allowed to go in the public transport to get there, and this service is regulated by hours during the week.

Your kids would love to know that this lighthouse started to get built around the year 1891, and it did not work until 1897. It was built with a space for two little houses, the ones that were occupied by the lighthouse keeperās family. These workers had a work shift for 5 months, but now itās an automated process. It is still interesting to know that in the beginnings of the 20th century they had this little hidden place on the Island. Beside this amazing history of past times, here you can see one of the best sunsets on the whole island with the rural park of Teno and the Acantilados of Los Gigantes as a background.

A walk through the Mount of Water
We understand that not all ages can do an entire hike around the forest of Tenerife, but we do think itās necessary to teach the little ones of the family about environmental culture. It is for this reason that we choose a little hike around the multiple ways that Monte del Agua has to offer. The Laurel forest is part of the history of our island and its magical forest can be admired by people of all ages.
Ravines, galleries, old houses and so much more is what you are going to find on the way north of Tenerife.

Seagulls Beach
If you look for beaches to go in Tenerife you are going to be recommended to go to Las Teresitas, and even though itās a nice quiet beach with some paid activities we do think that Tenerife has more options. Just as near to the city as Las Teresitas, you can find the beach Las Gaviotas. This is a true beach of Tenerife of black sand and volcanic origin.
Its waves are a little more intense, but with a careful watch of the kids here and there you can enjoy a natural environment under some cliffs and a lot of sand spaces. This pleasant beach is located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and after you pass the town of San Andres you can find it, a less known option but still a good one.
With these three recommendations, you can do a more original family trip. With the passing of time, the kids get older, and we think itās important to teach them the true meaning of visiting other places and to value nature. These little things to see in Tenerife with kids are what make a nice trip. We hope that the memories you make about our lovely Island can be special and different from another trip.

Although its waves can be a little more intense, with a little vigilance children will be able to enjoy a unique natural environment under the cliffs and many meters of sand to carry out their pranks. Located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and after passing the neighborhood of San AndrƩs, it is a slightly less common option but just as effective.

With these three recommendations we have tried to escape from the usual, from the typical and comfortable landscapes. There are occasions, and more so when our children are a few years old, when we must teach the true nature of a place, those essential things to see in Tenerife with children. We hope that the memories you build on our island are special and unlike any other vacation destination.
