The paradise of Tenerife goes beyond its coast. Hiking on the island is a pleasure for the senses and so today we bring you five essential routes for nature lovers.
Because whether you are an advanced hiker or just walk from time to time; there are routes for all physical and personal conditions. So choose your favourite, and whether alone, as a couple, with friends or with the whole family, go for a walk on the island!
Our first proposals focus on the highest mountain area in Spain:
The magnificent Teide volcano, inactive since 1909 but a landscape setting without equal in Spain.
1Ā· Alto de Guajara, Teide National Park
Starting at the Degollada de Guajara,
this traill will lead you to discover some of the Teide National Parkās most beautiful spots. From the 2,715 meters in height that you will reach in the Alto de Guajara, you can enjoy the southern side of the island. On a clear day, as you walk you can take in the rest of the Canary Islands. Isn't that amazing?

2Ā· Siete CaƱadas
Without leaving the National Park, we suggest the
Siete CaƱadas or Seven Glens trail . to you. Its more than 16 kilometres in length are at a height of more than 2,000 meters, so it can be quite hard for those who are not used to walking at these heights. In its favour, there is the rich great history which it holds. Formerly this section was known as the Chasna way and was used to cross the island via the wall of the Teide crater. In summer, blooming tajinastes become its great attraction.
Despite its length, its easy public transport connections make it a favourite for travellers.
Distance: 16,6 km Duration: 4.5 hours
3Ā· MontaƱa Blanca ā Pico del Teide
This route is probably one of the hardest trails you can do in Tenerife. It starts on the
MontaƱa Blanca track and, after five hours of ascent, ends 200 meters from the Teideās peak. Specifically, its end is the Mirador de la Fortaleza, at a height of 3,559 metres and with privileged views over the north side of the island and the rest of the archipelago.
It is important to note that, to climb the remaining 200 metres to the top, requires a special
permirt. Our recommendation? Spend the night at the Altavista Refuge, wake up to one of the most beautiful sunrises in the world and take the route to the roof of Spain.

Descending from the summit to the sea is always a privilege. Do it from the lush forest of Anaga to the coast of Punta del Hidalgo, a pleasure for the senses. In a
constant descent, the waves of the north-eastern slope of the island merge in the distance with the images of small towns and hamlets, with Chinamada as a highlight.

5Ā· Afur- Taganana ā Afur
Without leaving this extremely green landscape, this
circular route shows us the villages of Anaga along the north coast. Get to know Taganana, the largest village in the area or Afur, a spot full of charm. Tamadite Beach is the jewel in the crown of this trail. While it does not have easy access, every step to reach it is worth it.
